Tangier under the Sun At the gates of Tangier, a very pleasant circuit leads to the Atlantic coast in the midst of luxuriant vegetation joining together the plants of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
Cap Malabata and Cap Spartel
In Tangier two capes overlook two seas harmoniously meeting together. Cap Malabata faces the direction of the rising run. Cap
Spartel looks out to the Atlantic and the sunset.
Formerly it was called Cape Ampelusium (or vine cape). Near the sea and sitting rather high
up at 315 m at Jbel Slokia, this Cape has the advantage of enjoying permanent humidity
favorable to vegetation. To be visited at twilight.
Cap Malabata
At 10 km from Tangier is the strange Malabata castle that, in spite of its medieval style architecture, dates from the beginning of the 20th century. A bit further on the lighthouse terrace sports a beautiful view looking over the bay of Tangier and the Strait of Gibraltar. A landscape not to be missed on any account.
Grottoes of Hercules
According to Greek mythology, it was in these grottoes that Hercules found rest after accomplishing his 12 works: picking of golden apples in the Hesperidia gardens. These caverns where the sea flows in at high ide, are partly natural. There, one finds traces of prehistoric life. Legend has it that man came there to extract hard limestone from the cliff to make grindstones. A particular point of interest is the opening onto the sea where one can decipher the map of Africa!
Gotta ruins
Excavations have uncovered a Roman site probably dating from the 2nd or 3rd century, in particular, a istern and bathing facility.
